I was visiting New York City for my birthday trip and had learned about this spot before my trip and wanted to create a photo there specifically for this photo assignment.  It's taken from Brooklyn Bridge Park.  I knew I wanted to get a view of the Manhattan skyline at night and knew this spot had pier pilings that I could put in the foreground.  I was hoping for a more interesting sunset, though.  I used a long shutter speed to help smooth out the water and a narrow f-stop to get more in focus and get the starburst in the lights.

I processed it in Lightroom to fix the white balance and tried to bring out the lights in the buildings and reflections a bit more.  This was about a month after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and many buildings in New York were displaying blue and yellow lights in support of Ukraine.  I wanted to emphasize those colors to remember the events occurring at this time.
