The Story Behind the Photo

August 2022: Abstract

Butterfly

When first coming up with the idea of abstract I didn’t want to use photoshop or distort my image in the computer. I wanted to create something from the camera.  Honestly, I just really wanted to create something different.

I had an old canvas that had gotten a hole in it and that is honestly where my inspiration came from.    I spray painted the canvas black and glued butterflies all over it.  Once the paint dried I dressed in all black, including socks and painted and glued butterflies to my face and wore a butterfly cape.  I wanted a butterfly to be holding the canvas of butterflies.

I set up two Rotolights at 100% continuous power. One above me at an angle and the second one behind me at an angle.  During my session I moved them to several different angles to find the perfect lighting.

I shot the image with a Canon Eos 5D Mark IV, 24-105mm Lens, ISO 1250, Shutterspeed, 1/250 sec at f 4.0.  Final lighting was with one continuous light behind me, and one in front at 45 degree angle with barn doors to shape the light.

Have fun and don’t forget to be creative.
